Abstract

ABSTRACT THE USE OF TIKTOK VIDEOS BY @ENGLISHLOVERS TO IMPROVE THE STUDENT’S SPEAKING SKILLS By Salma Mahdi Wardah This research aimed to find out the improvement of ninth grade students’ speaking skill in expression of congratulation, hope/wish using tiktok videos by @Englishlovers at MTSN 1 Bandar Lampung in the academic year 2023/2024. This research was conducted to solve problems that occur in the classroom when learning speaking. In this modern era, as much as problem learning media adapted to technological advance. This research intends to explain the use of tiktok videos as learning media. This particular research was categorized as Classroom Action Research. It was concluded into two cycles and consisted of six meetings and involved four steps namely planning, acting, observing, reflecting. The research data were collected by using techniques of observation, interview, and test. The subject of this research was a class of the ninth grade of MTSN 1 Bandar Lampung which consists of 32 students. The result of the research showed that there was an improvement in students’ speaking skill. The students’ improvement was proved by their speaking test result which improved from test to test. In the pre�test, there was 9,4% of students or 3 students who could pass the Minimum Mastery Criterion, and there was 90,7 % of students or 29 students were got the scores below the criterion. In the post-test 1 in cycle 1, there was 40,7 % of students or 13 students who passed the Minimum Mastery Criterion, and there was 59,4 % of students or 19 students were still got the scores below the criterion. Finally, in the post-test 2 in cycle 2, it showed that the improvement was quite large that there was 84,3 % of students or 27 students who could pass the Minimum Mastery Criterion, and there was 15,7 % of students or 5 students got the scores below the criterion. Thus, this indicated that it had met the criterion of success that 80 % of students must get the score above the Minimum Mastery Criterion. Meanwhile, the result of the students’ interview also showed that their responses in learning speaking was good. The students were interested and motivated in speaking English, after being introduced and practiced using tiktok videos by @Englishlovers.
