Abstract

Kata Kunci: Learning Trajectory; Open Ended; representasi matematis; pemecahan masalah matematis. iii ABSTRACT Mathematical representation ability and mathematical problem-solving are two essential and closely interconnected components in mathematics learning. Mathematical representation serves as a bridge for students to understand a problem, while problem solving requires students to design solutions based on the representations they have developed. In this context, a learning model is needed that can simultaneously accommodate the development of both abilities so that students can think critically, creatively, and logically in solving various mathematical problems. This study aims to examine the effect of the Learning Trajectory model with an Open-Ended approach on students’ mathematical representation and problem-solving abilities. The Learning Trajectory model is designed based on students’ learning trajectories that are systematically arranged according to their stages of cognitive development, while the Open-Ended approach provides students the flexibility to develop various problem-solving strategies. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a posttest-only control group design, involving eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Kalianda as research subjects. Data analysis techniques employed MANOVA to test both the simultaneous and partial effects of the learning model on the two mathematical abilities studied. The results showed that the Learning Trajectory model with the Open-Ended approach significantly affected students’ mathematical representation ability. In addition, the model also had a significant effect on mathematical problem-solving ability. Simultaneously, the Learning Trajectory model with the Open-Ended approach proved to be effective in enhancing both abilities. These findings imply that the implementation of a learning model that considers students’ learning trajectories and accommodates diverse problem-solving strategies can be an effective alternative in mathematics instruction in schools. Keywords: Learning Trajectory; Open-Ended; mathematical representation; mathematical problem-solving.
