Abstract
ABSTRACT Teaching English to young students is not an easy thing. When teaching English to young students will be many challenges. English as one of local content subject is also challenging. Based on the explanation above, this research was aimed to find out the type of classroom used by teachers and also to find out the problems faced by teachers when teaching English to young students. This research was descriptive qualitative research with the research subject being an English teacher in class 1A, located at SD Negeri 1 Rawa Laut, Enggal, Bandar Lampung. The data collection techniques used were observation, interviews and documentation with analysis techniques using data reduction, data display, data verification and data validity testing techniques using triangulation. From this research, it can be concluded that the type of interaction used by teachers in teaching English to young students in class 1A of SD Negeri 1 Rawa Laut is the learner-instructor interaction type. While the problems faced by teachers in teaching English to young students were the difficulty of dealing with students' multi level groups and also the teacher's difficulty in getting students' attention when learning takes place in the classroom. Then, other problems were the teacher complain about the lack of subject hours and school facilities that can be used as learning media.
