Abstract

ABSTRACT The learning process at SMA Negeri 1 Purbolinggo in terms of reading comprehension in analytical exposition text was still low because most of the students still had difficulties in understanding and comprehend the content of the reading text. It’s because many factors, the first it is because the lack of students’ background knowledge about the topic of a text given. The second one is the lack of uninteresting topic can be one of the factors because in analytical exposition text there are based on fact. The students cannot be active in learning. In this study aimed to find out significant effectiveness of using fishbone technique towards students’ reading comprehension in analytical exposition text of eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Purbolinggo in the academic year 2022/2023. The research methodology of this research was quasi experimental design with two instrument there are pre-test and post�test. The population of this research is the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 1 Putbolinggo in the academic year 2022/2023. The samples of the research were two classes there are XI Mia 1 and XI Mia 2. For experimental class (XI Mia 1) consists of 34 students and for control class (XI Mia 2) consists of 34 students too. So, the totals of samples were 68 students. The experimental class was used fishbone technique, while the control class was used translation technique. The treatments were held in 3 meetings. In collecting the data, this research was used a test for the instrument by multiple choice questions. Before giving the treatment, a pre-test was given. Then, after conducting the treatment was given a post-test. The results of data analysis showed that the fishbone technique scores obtained by students before and after treatments had significant difference; this could be seen from the following facts. Hypothesis testing used T-test to measure the significant effectiveness of fishbone technique for teaching reading comprehension score. Based on the T-test of the SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) version 25, it was obtained that Sig. (ρvalue) = 0.001 < α = 0.05. So, H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. Based on the computation, it can be concluded that there significant effect of Fishbone technique towards students’ reading comprehension on analytical exposition text.
