Abstract

ABSTRACT The role of public relations is very much needed in government, the need for public information, especially regarding government, of course, must be presented in the form of information that is easily understood by the wider community. For this reason, the Public Relations Office of the West Lampung Regency Communication and Informatics Service is trying to be able to disseminate information to the public through press releases that are carried out on various social media. Of course, carrying out its role as public relations is not easy, especially in reporting activities and making press releases because of the lack of personnel and training for its members regarding journalism. This study has a formulation of the problem, namely what is the role of public relations in reporting and making press releases at the West Lampung District Communication and Information Office which aims to find out how the role of public relations is in reporting activities and making press releases. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Furthermore, to obtain data sources, the authors use primary and secondary data sources and purposive sampling techniques in taking the sample. For the method of data collection is done by interview techniques, observation and documentation. As for data analysis, the data analysis method uses the Miles and Huberman models and the theory used as a surgical tool in discussing this research is Rosady Ruslan's theory of the concept of the role of public relations. After conducting research and analysis, the results of the research show that the role of public relations in reporting activities and making press releases at the West Lampung District Communication and Information Service based on indicators from the theory used as a whole has gone well. By implementing its role as: communicator, namely where public relations acts as an intermediary / mediator between the community and the government, relationships, namely public relations as a liaison for cooperation between the media, society, agencies related to government, back up management, namely public relations must have planning in carrying out their duties and good image maker namely public relations must be able to build a good image. From the presentation of these indicators, it can be concluded that the Public Relations Office of the West Lampung Kominfo Service has carried out its role properly and effectively.
