Abstract

ABSTRACT AN ANALYSIS OF ILLOCUTIONARY ACT IN THE MAIN CHARACTERS UTTERANCES IN SONIC THE HEDGEHOG MOVIE (2020) BY SEARLE’S CATEGORIES BY RATNA AYU MELIANA Language is important things in communication. By communication human can build relationship each other. In order to make a good communication human have to understand what the speaker said and what talk about. On this occasion, the Sonic the Hedgehoc movie is one of the interestung films in the comedy genre which tells about the adventures of a blue hedgehog saving his best friend. While enjoying the trip, there are several utterances that contain requests, offers, refusals, etc. Which are one type of illocutionary acts and of course must be understood by the interlocutor to accelerate the achievement of his mission. Not only that, the moral value and sonic‟s characters who are smart, never give up, the passion to achieve goals in life are the reasons why the researcher chose the title of this film which he hopes can be applied not only to the writer but also to all readers. The purpose of this research is to know about types of illocutionary acts that used by the characters in Sonic the Hedgehog Movie through watching movie and reading script. Illocutionary Act divided five types; representative acts, directive acts, commisive acts, expressive acts and declarative acts. This research used qualitative research to analysis the subject, because this research will find the illocutionary acts in the characters of Sonic the Hedgehog Movie. This research used theory by Searle‟s categories. Besides that, in this research find all of illocutionary acts. It found five illocutionary acts; representative acts, directive acts, commisive acts, expressive acts and declarartive acts. The result shows that there are 388 data from the characters in Sonic the Hedgehog Movie to perform the illocutionary acts. The collected data can be concluded that the dominant of illocutionary acts occur in declarative acts. The details of illocutionary acts in Sonic the Hedgehog Movie 132 data or 33.67 % declarative acts. The second is directive acts in 95 data or 24.23%, third is expressive acts in 73 data or 18.62%. next, representative acts in 54 data or 13.7%. And the last is commisive acts, there are 37 data or 9.69 %. There are four factor causes different illocutionary acts that used in characters Sonic the Hedgehog movie. They are participant, setting, topic and function. These factors made every characters using different illocutionary acts in different interlocutors and situation.
