Abstract

ABSTRACT The objective of this research was to find out whether there was significant influence of using Memrise Application towards students listening ability. Listening ability is the result of an interaction between a number of information sources, which include the acoustic input, different type of linguistic knowledge, details of the content, and general word knowledge, and so forth, and listener use whether information they have available, or whatever information seems relevant to help them to interpret what the speaker is saying. This research was conducted using a quasi-experimental design. The population in this research was the eleventh grade of SMA N 1 Pasir Sakti that was consisted of 302 students. In taking the sample, the researcher used cluster random sampling technique. The samples used were two classes for the experimental class and the control class, XI IPA 3 and XI IPS 4 which consisted of 30 students. In collecting the data,the researcher used an instrument in the form of a multiple choice test of 30 questions. After given the pre-test and post-test, the researcher was analyzed the normality and homogeneous distribution data using SPSS v.25 to calculate the independent sample t-test. Based on the data analysis calculatedusing SPSS v.25, it was obtained that Sig. (2-tailed) of the equal variance assumed was 0.000 and α = 0.05. Ha is accepted if Sig. < α = 005 and Ho is accepted if Sig > α = 0.05. Its means that, Sig. 0.000 < α = 0.05. So, Ha accepted. Based on these results, it can be concluded that there is a significant influence in the using of Memrise applications towards students listening ability at the Eleventh grade of SMA N 1 Pasir Sakti in the academic year of 2022/2023.
