Abstract

ABSTRACT AN ANALYSIS OF MORAL VALUES IN THE PROFESSOR AND THE MADMAN MOVIE By: NOVI FITRIYANI Moral values are good or bad human actions based on the norms that apply in a society. In education, moral values are useful for building students‘ personalities. This research aims to know the types of moral values in the Professor and the Madman Movie. The moral values were found by using Thomas Lickona‘s theory. Moral values can be learned by a movie, because movie is a visual medium that provides moral values and life in the real world. The Professor and the Madman Movie are an educational movie talks about representation of a mysterious tale in the history of the compilation of the Great Oxford English Dictionary in the 19th century. This qualitative descriptive research used documentation in collecting the data. The instruments of this research are document and the researcher herself. Three steps were used to analyze the data based on Miles and Huberman‘s theory which are data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing. Finally, the researcher used investigator triangulation to validate the data analysis result. After analyzing the Professor and the Madman Movie, there were found thirty-three data in the form of dialogues that can be categorized as a type of moral values, there are eleven moral values from respect, five moral values from responsibility, four moral values from honesty, two moral values from fairness, five moral values from prudence, three moral values from cooperation and also three moral values from courage.
