Abstract

ABSTRACT TEACHING AND LEARNING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT BY USING COOPERATIVE LEARNING METHOD By: PENDAYANI The objective of this research was to know the process of teaching learning writing, especially descriptive text by using cooperative learning method. The research used qualitative research. The writer used purposive sampling technique to determine the sample of research. The writer chose class X.2 to become the sample with the total 31 students in one class only. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation, interview and questionnaire. The researcher used three major phases of data analysis, they were; data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing or verification. The writer conducted this research in one meeting. After analyzing the data, it was found that the process of teaching writing by using cooperative learning method at tenth grade of SMA Negeri 1 Pesisir Selatan has been conducted and was not running well, but the students the classroom situation in teaching and learning writing through cooperative learning method was quite good because the students can finish the writing task cooperatively, they followed the lesson and teacher’s instruction even though the class was very noisy. After all, the students were worked cooperatively with their friends in the group to finish their task. Based on this result, the researcher concludes that cooperative learning method is good to be used for teaching learning writing, it is just about how to manage the class that the teacher must be able to handle the class, therefore the students would not be so noisy in learning process.
