Abstract

ABSTRACT In the process of teaching and learning English, many students found some difficulties in learning English. In turn, to handle the students' problems, some techniques were needed by the teacher to overcome that problem. To solve the problem, Chain Story technique was used as technique to increase the students’ ability in writing descriptive text. The objective of the research was to know whether there was a significant influence of using Chain Story technique towards students' ability in writing descriptive text at the eleventh grade students at MA Al-Hikmah Bandar Lampung in the academic year 2021/2022. Pre-experimental was employed for research method with one group of pre-test and post-test. Using total sampling technique to get the sample, which consisted of 31 students from XI MIA, an experimental class.The instrument was written test to collect the data from pre-test and post-test. Before the treatment, pre-test was given to assess students' ability in writing descriptive text, and post-test was given to addressed students' ability in writing descriptive text utilizing the chain story technique. The data was analyzed using a paired sample t- test. The result of paired sample t-test where tobserved was 19.716 and ttable2.048. It means, tobserved was higher than ttable. So, H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. It means there was influence of using chain story technique toward students’ ability in writing descriptive text at the first semester of the eleventh grade of MA Al-Hikmah Bandar Lampungin the academic year 2021/2022.
