Abstract

ABSTRACT The Influence of Using English Listening and Speaking Application Towards Students’ Listening Comprehension at the 8th Grade of SMPN 29 Bandar Lampung was conducted to investigate whether the use of the English Listening and Speaking Application influenced students' listening comprehension. Listening is one of the essential English skills, but many students still experience difficulties in understanding spoken English because of limited vocabulary, different accents, pronunciation, and the speed of native speakers. Therefore, the English Listening and Speaking Application was used as a digital learning medium to help students improve their listening comprehension. This research used a quantitative approach with a quasi experimental design. The population of this research consisted of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 29 Bandar Lampung. The sample included an experimental class and a control class selected through cluster random sampling. The experimental class was taught using the English Listening and Speaking Application, while the control class was taught using conventional media. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test and analyzed using the normality test, homogeneity test, and independent sample t-test. The findings indicated that the use of the English Listening and Speaking Application had a significant positive influence on students' listening comprehension. Students who learned using the application showed better listening comprehension than those who learned through conventional media. The application also increased students' motivation and provided more interactive listening practice. It can be concluded that the English Listening and Speaking Application is an effective learning medium for improving students' listening comprehension.
