Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi oleh berkembangnya karya literasi populer yang tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai media hiburan, tetapi juga sebagai sarana penyampaian nilai-nilai kehidupan. Salah satu karya tersebut adalah buku Filosofi Teras karya Henry Manampiring yang memperkenalkan Stoikisme dalam konteks kehidupan modern. Penelitian bertujuan untuk menganalisis representasi prinsip-prinsip Stoikisme serta relevansinya dengan etika komunikasi dalam Buku Filosofi Teras Karya Henry Manampiring. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian kepustakaan (library research) yang bersifat deskriptif. Data primer diperoleh dari Bab 4 buku Filosofi Teras, sedangkan data sekunder berasal dari buku, jurnal, skripsi, dan literatur ilmiah yang relevan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui teknik dokumentasi, sedangkan analisis data menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman, Sedangkan interpretasi data menggunakan teori representasi Stuart Hall melalui pendekatan reflektif, intensional, dan konstruksionis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Bab 4 buku Filosofi Teras merepresentasikan prinsip-prinsip Stoikisme melalui empat subbab, yaitu Pasrah pada Keadaan, Dikotomi Kendali, Dari Dikotomi Kendali Menjadi Trikotomi Kendali, dan Tirani Opini Orang Lain. Representasi tersebut memperlihatkan bahwa prinsip dikotomi kendali menjadi prinsip yang paling dominan serta dikonstruksi melalui narasi, ilustrasi, dan contoh kehidupan sehari-hari. Penelitian ini juga menemukan bahwa representasi prinsip-prinsip Stoikisme memiliki relevansi dengan etika komunikasi, terutama dalam pengendalian emosi, merespons sesuatu secara bijaksana, berpikir rasional, menghargai perbedaan pendapat, serta bertanggung jawab dalam berkomunikasi. ABSRACT This study is motivated by the growing development of popular literary works that function not only as a medium of entertainment but also as a means of conveying life values. One of these works is Filosofi Teras by Henry Manampiring, which introduces the philosophy of Stoicism in the context of modern life. This study aims to analyze the representation of Stoic principles and their relevance to communication ethics in Chapter 4 of Filosofi Teras by Henry Manampiring. The research employs a qualitative approach using a descriptive library research method. Primary data were obtained from of Filosofi Teras, while secondary data were collected from books, journals, undergraduate theses, and other relevant academic literature. Data were collected through documentation techniques. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, while data interpretation was carried out based on Stuart Hall's theory of representation through the reflective, intentional, and constructionist approaches. The findings indicate that Chapter 4 of Filosofi Teras represents Stoic principles through four main subchapters: Accepting Circumstances, The Dichotomy of Control, From the Dichotomy of Control to the Trichotomy of Control, and The Tyranny of Other People's Opinions. The representation demonstrates that the principles of the dichotomy of control and self-control are the most dominant Stoic principles, constructed through narratives, illustrations, and examples drawn from everyday life. The study also finds that the representation of Stoic principles is closely related to communication ethics, particularly in terms of emotional self-control, responding wisely to criticism, thinking rationally, respecting differences of opinion, and demonstrating responsibility in communication.
