Abstract

ABSTRACT Writing is one of the essential skills in learning English. However, many students still struggle to develop coherent English sentences, have limited English vocabulary, and experience difficulties in applying grammar rules when writing analytical exposition texts. Furthermore, previous studies have mostly implemented the Team Word-Webbing Technique to improve reading skills, while its application to writing skills has received limited attention. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate whether the Team Word-Webbing Technique significantly improves students' writing ability in analytical exposition texts among the eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Bangunrejo, Central Lampung. This study employed a quasi-experimental design. The population consisted of 300 eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Bangunrejo, Central Lampung, who were divided into nine classes. The sample was selected using cluster random sampling, resulting in two classes: XI.2 as the experimental class (34 students) and XI.8 as the control class (33 students). The data were collected through pretest and post-test writing assessments. The experimental class was taught using the Team Word-Webbing Technique, while the control class received guided writing instruction. The data were analyzed using SPSS. The data were analyzed using an independent samples t-test. The results showed that the Sig. (2-tailed) value was 0.000, which was lower than the significance level of 0.05. Therefore, the null hypothesis (H₀ ) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H₁ ) was accepted. These findings indicate that the Team Word-Webbing Technique significantly improved students' ability to write analytical exposition texts. Furthermore, this study contributes to the existing literature by extending the application of the Team Word-Webbing Technique from reading skills to writing skills.
