Abstract

ABSTRACT Vocabulary is one of the most important aspects of learning English because it supports students in understanding and using the language effectively. However, many elementary school students still have limited vocabulary and low motivation to learn English. Therefore, this research aimed to investigate the influence of Baamboozle gamification on students' vocabulary mastery in fifthgrade students at SDN 2 Koba. This research used a quantitative approach with a quasiexperimental design. The population consisted of all fifth-grade students at SDN 2 Koba in the 2025/2026 academic year, total 47 students. Total sampling was used, with Class VA as the control class and Class VB as the experimental class. The experimental class was taught using Baamboozle gamification, while the control class was taught using the conventional method. The instrument used in this research was a multiple-choice vocabulary test administered as a pretest and post-test. The collected data were analyzed using the ShapiroWilk normality test, Levene's homogeneity test, and an Independent Sample t-test. The results showed that the students in the experimental class achieved better vocabulary mastery than those in the control class. The Independent Sample t-test indicated that the significance value (Sig. 2- tailed) was 0.004, which was lower than 0.05. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected. These findings indicate that Baamboozle gamification had a positive influence on students' vocabulary mastery. In addition, the use of Baamboozle created a more active, enjoyable, and student center learning environment, which increased students' motivation and participation during the learning process. Therefore, Baamboozle can be used as an effective learning medium for teaching English vocabulary to elementary school students.
