Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini membahas komunikasi interpersonal Pembimbing Akademik (PA) dalam memotivasi penyelesaian studi mahasiswa di Fakultas Dakwah dan Ilmu Komunikasi UIN Raden Intan Lampung. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh masih adanya hambatan komunikasi antara mahasiswa dan PA, seperti rendahnya intensitas komunikasi, keterbatasan akses komunikasi, serta hubungan yang cenderung formal sehingga motivasi mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan studi belum terbentuk secara optimal. Meskipun PA telah memberikan arahan akademik yang cukup jelas, mahasiswa masih mengharapkan komunikasi yang lebih terbuka, aktif, dan mampu memberikan motivasi secara personal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami komunikasi interpersonal PA dalam memotivasi mahasiswa menyelesaikan studi di Fakultas Dakwah dan Ilmu Komunikasi UIN Raden Intan Lampung. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan sifat deskriptif. Penelitian dilakukan di Fakultas Dakwah dan Ilmu Komunikasi UIN Raden Intan Lampung dengan fokus pada komunikasi interpersonal PA dalam memotivasi penyelesaian studi mahasiswa. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Informan penelitian terdiri dari dosen Pembimbing Akademik (PA) dan mahasiswa Program Studi Komunikasi dan Penyiaran Islam angkatan 2022 yang dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Penelitian ini melibatkan empat dosen PA dan empat mahasiswa sebagai informan utama. Data yang diperoleh kemudian dianalisis menggunakan teknik reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan untuk memperoleh gambaran yang jelas mengenai komunikasi interpersonal PA dalam memotivasi mahasiswa menyelesaikan studi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa komunikasi interpersonal Pembimbing Akademik (PA) dalam memotivasi penyelesaian studi mahasiswa telah berjalan dengan cukup baik. Keterbukaan terlihat dari adanya kesempatan bagi mahasiswa untuk bertanya dan menyampaikan kesulitan akademik yang dihadapi. Empati ditunjukkan melalui pemahaman Pembimbing Akademik terhadap kondisi mahasiswa serta pemberian solusi yang sesuai. Dukungan diwujudkan melalui arahan, motivasi, dan dorongan agar mahasiswa dapat menyelesaikan studinya. Rasa positif tercermin dari respons yang positif, terciptanya suasana komunikasi yang nyaman, serta semangat yang diberikan kepada mahasiswa. Kesetaraan ditunjukkan melalui komunikasi yang saling menghargai sehingga mahasiswa merasa nyaman selama proses bimbingan. Motivasi mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan studi tercermin melalui kebutuhan akan prestasi, kebutuhan akan kekuasaan, dan kebutuhan akan afiliasi, yang ditunjukkan oleh keinginan untuk lulus tepat waktu, mengelola studinya secara mandiri, serta menjalin hubungan yang baik dengan Pembimbing Akademik, teman, dan lingkungan kampus. ABSTRACT This research discusses the interpersonal communication of Academic Advisors (Pembimbing Akademik/PA) in motivating students to complete their studies at the Faculty of Da’wah and Communication Science UIN Raden Intan Lampung. This study was motivated by the existence of communication barriers between students and Academic Advisors, such as low communication intensity, limited communication access, and relationships that tend to be formal, resulting in students’ motivation to complete their studies not being optimally developed. Although Academic Advisors have provided sufficiently clear academic guidance, students still expect communication that is more open, active, and capable of providing personal motivation. This study aims to understand the interpersonal communication of Academic Advisors in motivating students to complete their studies at the Faculty of Da’wah and Communication Science UIN Raden Intan Lampung. This study employed a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. The research was conducted at the Faculty of Da’wah and Communication Science UIN Raden Intan Lampung, focusing on the interpersonal communication of Academic Advisors in motivating students to complete their studies. Data collection techniques included interviews, observations, and documentation. The research informants consisted of Academic Advisors and students from the Islamic Communication and Broadcasting Study Program class of 2022, selected using purposive sampling techniques. This study involved four Academic Advisors and four students as the main informants. The collected data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing to obtain a clear understanding of the interpersonal communication of Academic Advisors in motivating students to complete their studies. The results of the study indicate that the Academic Advisor's (PA) interpersonal communication in motivating students to complete their studies has been implemented quite well. Openness is reflected in opportunities for students to ask questions and express academic difficulties. Empathy is demonstrated through the Academic Advisor's understanding of students' conditions and provision of appropriate solutions. Support is shown through guidance, motivation, and encouragement to complete their studies. Positiveness is reflected in positive responses, a comfortable communication atmosphere, and encouragement provided to students. Equality is demonstrated through mutual respect, making students feel comfortable during the guidance process. Students' motivation to complete their studies is reflected in the need for achievement, the need for power, and the need for affiliation, as shown by their desire to graduate on time, manage their studies independently, and build good relationships with the Academic Advisor, peers, and the campus environment.
