Abstract

ABSTRACT Vocabulary mastery plays a crucial role in English language learning and is one of the key aspects that students must master. At the elementary school level, vocabulary learning needs to be adapted to the characteristics of students as young learners. Based on the results of pre liminary research, through interviews with English teachers, students experienced difficulties in mastering English vocabulary. Therefore, the use of interesting learning media is essential to support the learning process. In this research, the Anagram game in Wordwall was used as a game-based learning medium to facilitate vocabulary mastery among fifth-grade students at MIN 1 Bandar Lampung during the 2025/2026 academic year. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasiexperimental method using a pretest–posttest control group design. The research involves two classes: Class 5A, the experimental class that was treated using the Anagram game in the Wordwall and Class 5B, the control class that used textbooks. The data collection instruments used were multiple-choice tests consisting of a pre-test and a post-test. The research findings showed a difference in the mean scores between the two classes. The control class’s pre-test mean score of 65.19 increased to 77.44 on the post-test. Meanwhile, the experimental class showed a higher increase, from a pre-test mean score of 64.81 to 83.72 on the post-test. Based on the results of statistical analysis using the Mann-Whitney test, a Sig. (2-tailed) 0.025 < 0.05. These results indicate that H₀ is rejected and H₁ is accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Anagram game on Wordwall has a significant influence on the vocabulary mastery of fifth-grade students at MIN 1 Bandar Lampung.
