Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya keterampilan berbicara peserta didik kelas V di MIN 12 Bandar Lampung yang ditunjukkan oleh kesulitan dalam menyampaikan ide secara lisan, penggunaan kalimat yang belum runtut, artikulasi yang kurang jelas, serta rendahnya rasa percaya diri saat berbicara. Kondisi tersebut menunjukkan perlunya penerapan metode pembelajaran yang lebih terstruktur untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara peserta didik. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh metode Preview, Question, Read, Summarize, Test (PQRST) terhadap keterampilan berbicara peserta didik. Penelitian didasarkan pada teori metode PQRST yang menekankan tahapan pembelajaran sistematis melalui kegiatan pratinjau, penyusunan pertanyaan, membaca, meringkas, dan pengujian sebagai upaya meningkatkan pemahaman sekaligus kemampuan berkomunikasi lisan. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan jenis Quasi Experimental Design dan desain Posttest Only Control Group Design. Sampel ditentukan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes keterampilan berbicara dan dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan uji Independent Samples t-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan rata-rata nilai posttest kelas eksperimen sebesar 72,41 lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelas kontrol sebesar 57,80 dengan nilai signifikansi 0,001 < 0,05. Dengan demikian, metode PQRST berpengaruh signifikan terhadap keterampilan berbicara peserta didik kelas V di MIN 12 Bandar Lampung dan berpotensi menjadi alternatif pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia untuk meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi lisan peserta didik. ABSTRACT This study was motivated by the low speaking skills of Year 5 pupils at MIN 12 Bandar Lampung, as evidenced by their difficulty in expressing ideas orally, the use of incoherent sentences, unclear articulation, and a lack of confidence when speaking. These conditions highlight the need to implement a more structured teaching method to improve the pupils’ speaking skills. This study aims to determine the effect of the Preview, Question, Read, Summarise, Test (PQRST) method on pupils’ speaking skills. The study is based on the PQRST method theory, which emphasises systematic learning stages through previewing, formulating questions, reading, summarising and testing as a means of improving both comprehension and oral communication skills. The study employed a quantitative approach using a Quasi-Experimental Design and a Posttest-Only Control Group Design. The sample was selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through speaking skills tests and documentation, and subsequently analysed using an Independent Samples t-test. The results showed that the average post-test score for the experimental class was 72.41, which was higher than that of the control class (57.80), with a significance level of 0.001 < 0.05. Consequently, the PQRST method has a significant effect on the speaking skills of Year 5 pupils at MIN 12 Bandar Lampung and has the potential to serve as an alternative method for teaching Indonesian to improve pupils’ oral communication skills.
