Abstract

ABSTRACT This study was motivated by the low analytical thinking skills of fifth-grade students at MIN 2 West Lampung. The research aimed to determine the effect of the probing-prompting learning model, supported by "couple card" media, on the analytical thinking skills of fifth-grade students in Indonesian language lessons at MIN 2 West Lampung during the 2026 academic year. The study involved a population of 110 students, with a sample selected via purposive sampling—a non-random technique based on specific criteria. Class VA served as the experimental group, receiving instruction via the probing-prompting model with couple card media, while Class VB served as the control group, receiving instruction via the Socratic learning model with couple card media. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasiexperimental method and a non-equivalent control group design. It was conducted with fifth-grade classes at MIN 2 West Lampung (Balik Bukit District, West Lampung Regency, Lampung Province) during the 2026 academic year. The research instrument consisted of essay tests comprising 10 items for the pretest and 8 items for the posttest. Prior to use, the instruments underwent testing for validity, reliability, difficulty level, and discriminatory power. Data analysis involved prerequisite tests—specifically normality and homogeneity tests— followed by hypothesis testing using the t-test at a significance level of 0.05. Normality and homogeneity tests revealed that the samples were normally distributed and homogeneous (possessing equal variances). The hypothesis test (t-test) regarding Indonesian language analytical thinking skills in the experimental class yielded a two-tailed significance (sig.) value of 0.008. Since this value was less than 0.05, the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. The conclusion of this study is that the probingprompting learning model, supported by "couple card" media, influences the analytical thinking skills of fifth-grade students in Indonesian language lessons at MIN 2 West Lampung.
