Abstract

ABSTRACT Urbanization is an important phenomenon in regional development influenced by economic inequality and the availability of basic infrastructure. Lampung Province has experienced an increase in urbanization driven by disparities in income across regions along with disparities in essential facilities particularly safe drinking water. From an Islamic economic perspective, development emphasizes distributive justice and the fulfillment of basic needs for society. This research seeks to examine the impact of earnings disparity and potable water availability on the degree of urbanization across regencies/cities in Lampung Regional area throughout 2014–2023. The study applies a numerical methodology utilizing longitudinal dataset examination grounded on secondary data from the Central Bureau of Statistics covering 14 regencies/cities. The model used is the Fixed Effect Model (FEM), determined via Chow and Hausman procedures. Findings indicate that earnings disparity exerts an adverse and significant effect on urbanization, while access to safe drinking water demonstrates a favorable and statistically meaningful impact. Collectively, the two factors substantially affect the magnitude of urbanization. Therefore, equitable income distribution and the provision of basic infrastructure are key factors in promoting just and sustainable urbanization in accordance with Islamic economic principles.
