Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini berangkat dari persoalan filosofis mengenai kebebasan dan emansipasi perempuan yang direpresentasikan dalam novel Geni Jora karya Abidah El Khalieqy. Novel ini tidak hanya menghadirkan kisah perempuan dalam konteks sosial budaya pesantren, tetapi juga menampilkan pergulatan eksistensial tokoh utama dalam menghadapi relasi patriarki, diskriminasi, serta keterbatasan ruang gerak perempuan. Selain itu, karya ini menegaskan pentingnya kesadaran kritis sebagai instrumen pembebasan perempuan dari dominasi sosial dan budaya. Penulis juga memaparkan masalah pada penelitian ini, yaitu bagaimana nilai-nilai filosofis kebebasan dan emansipasi perempuan dan yang kedua Bagaimana relevansi nilai kebebasan dan emansipasi perempuan dalam novel Geni Jora terhadap realitas sosial perempuan masa kini direpresentasikan dalam novel tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode analisis isi (content analysis) terhadap teks novel Geni Jora. Data dikumpulkan melalui studi pustaka, dokumentasi, dan analisis deskriptif terhadap tokoh, dialog, konflik, serta narasi yang relevan dengan tema kebebasan dan emansipasi. Analisis dilakukan dengan kerangka filsafat kebebasan dan emansipasi, sehingga mampu mengungkap makna filosofis yang terkandung dalam novel. Fokus penelitian dibatasi pada kebebasan berpikir, berbicara, berpendapat, serta perjuangan perempuan untuk memperoleh kesetaraan peran sosial dan kemandirian finansial. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa novel Geni Jora merepresentasikan kebebasan perempuan dalam bentuk kebebasan berpikir, berbicara, berpendapat, serta menentukan pilihan hidup secara mandiri. Selain itu, novel ini juga menampilkan nilai emansipasi perempuan melalui perjuangan memperoleh kesetaraan peran sosial, kemandirian finansial, dan penghapusan diskriminasi. Kesimpulan penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa karya Abidah El Khalieqy tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai kritik sosial terhadap budaya patriarki, tetapi juga sebagai refleksi filosofis mengenai pentingnya kebebasan dan emansipasi perempuan sebagai bagian dari hakikat eksistensi manusia. ABSTRACT This study departs from philosophical issues concerning freedom and women’s emancipation as represented in Abidah El Khalieqy’s novel Geni Jora. The novel not only presents the story of women within the socio-cultural context of the pesantren, but also depicts the existential struggles of the main character in confronting patriarchal relations, discrimination, and the limitations of women’s mobility. In addition, the work emphasizes the importance of critical awareness as an instrument of women’s liberation from social and cultural domination. The author also outlines the research problems: first, how the philosophical values of freedom and women’s emancipation are represented in the novel; and second, how the relevance of these values of freedom and emancipation in Geni Jora relates to the contemporary social realities of women. This study employs a qualitative approach with the method of content analysis applied to the text of Geni Jora. Data were collected through literature review, documentation, and descriptive analysis of characters, dialogues, conflicts, and narratives relevant to the themes of freedom and emancipation. The analysis was conducted within the framework of the philosophy of freedom and emancipation, thereby revealing the philosophical meanings embedded in the novel. The focus of the research is limited to freedom of thought, speech, opinion, and the struggle of women to achieve equality in social roles and financial independence. The findings show that Geni Jora represents women’s freedom in the form of freedom of thought, speech, opinion, and the ability to make independent life choices. Furthermore, the novel also portrays the values of women’s emancipation through struggles to gain equality in social roles, financial independence, and the elimination of discrimination. The conclusion of this study affirms that Abidah El Khalieqy’s work functions not only as social criticism of patriarchal culture, but also as a philosophical reflection on the significance of freedom and women’s emancipation as integral to the essence of human existenc.
