Abstract

ABSTRAK Perkembangan media digital mendorong meningkatnya kebutuhan masyarakat terhadap informasi cepat dan aktual, namun menimbulkan tantangan dalam menjaga kualitas berita. Kondisi ini menuntut media online, termasuk Lampung Geh News, menjalankan proses gatekeeping secara optimal. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisis peran tim redaksi dalam proses gatekeeping guna menjaga kualitas berita. Teori yang digunakan ialah teori gatekeeping dari Shoemaker dan Tim P. Vos serta teori peran sebagai landasan analisis. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan wawancara bersama pemimpin redaksi sebagai informan kunci, didukung observasi dan dokumentasi. Analisis data menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman melalui tiga tahapan: reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil menunjukkan gatekeeping dilakukan secara kolektif dan berlapis melalui lima level: individu, rutinitas media, organisasi, ideologi, dan ekstramedia. Pada level individu, penugasan berbasis keahlian jurnalis meningkatkan kualitas seleksi berita. Pada level rutinitas, verifikasi hierarkis menjaga konsistensi editorial meskipun tanpa checklist formal. Pada level organisasi, seleksi berbasis kepentingan publik diterapkan tegas. Pada level ideologi, komitmen kemerdekaan pers berfungsi sebagai filter nilai tertinggi. Pada level ekstramedia, partisipasi audiens dikelola profesional tanpa mengorbankan standar verifikasi. Penelitian ini berkontribusi pada bidang jurnalistik agar media memperhatikan tahapan gatekeeping demi berita berkualitas, sekaligus mendorong penelitian selanjutnya memperluas perspektif dengan melibatkan seluruh pemangku kepentingan dalam produksi berita. Kata Kunci: peran tim redaksi, gatekeeping, media online, kualitas berita, Lampung Geh News ABSTRACT The development of digital media has driven an increasing public demand for fast and up-to-date information, yet it has also posed challenges in maintaining news quality. This situation requires online media outlets, including Lampung Geh News, to carry out the gatekeeping process effectively. The purpose of this study is to analyze the role of the editorial team in the gatekeeping process to ensure news quality. The theories used are the gatekeeping theory by Shoemaker and Tim P. Vos, as well as role theory, which serve as the foundation for the analysis. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, featuring interviews with the editor-in-chief as the key informant, supplemented by observation and documentation. Data analysis utilizes the Miles and Huberman model through three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results indicate that gatekeeping is carried out collectively and in layers across five levels: individual, media routines, organizational, ideological, and extramedia. At the individual level, assignments based on journalists’ expertise enhance the quality of news selection. At the routine level, hierarchical verification maintains editorial consistency even without formal checklists. At the organizational level, selection based on the public interest is strictly enforced. At the ideological level, a commitment to press freedom serves as the highest value filter. At the extramedia level, audience participation is professionally managed without compromising verification standards. This study contributes to the field of journalism by urging media outlets to pay attention to the stages of gatekeeping to ensure high-quality news, while also encouraging further research to broaden perspectives by involving all stakeholders in news production.
