Abstract

ABSTRAK Perkembangan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi telah mendorong meningkatnya penggunaan media sosial sebagai sarana komunikasi, termasuk di kalangan mahasiswa. WhatsApp merupakan salah satu media sosial yang banyak digunakan untuk mendukung aktivitas akademik maupun sosial. Namun, intensitas penggunaan WhatsApp yang tinggi menimbulkan berbagai pandangan mengenai pengaruhnya terhadap interaksi sosial mahasiswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh media sosial WhatsApp terhadap interaksi sosial mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI) UIN Raden Intan Lampung. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode survei. Populasi penelitian adalah mahasiswa Program Studi PAI UIN Raden Intan Lampung, dengan sampel sebanyak 34 responden yang dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui kuesioner berbasis skala Likert yang telah diuji validitas dan reliabilitasnya. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan bantuan program SPSS versi 25 melalui uji normalitas, uji linearitas, analisis regresi linear sederhana, uji t, dan koefisien determinasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media sosial WhatsApp tidak berpengaruh secara signifikan terhadap interaksi sosial mahasiswa PAI UIN Raden Intan Lampung. Hal ini dibuktikan oleh nilai signifikansi sebesar 0,933 yang lebih besar dari 0,05 (0,933 > 0,05). Selain itu, nilai t-hitung sebesar 0,085 lebih kecil dibandingkan t-tabel sebesar 2,037. Nilai koefisien determinasi (R²) sebesar 0,000 menunjukkan bahwa variabel WhatsApp tidak memberikan kontribusi terhadap variasi interaksi sosial mahasiswa. Temuan ini mengindikasikan bahwa interaksi sosial mahasiswa lebih dipengaruhi oleh faktor-faktor lain di luar penggunaan media sosial WhatsApp. ABSTRACT The rapid development of information and communication technology has increased the use of social media as a means of communication, particularly among university students. WhatsApp is one of the most widely used social media platforms for supporting academic and social activities. However, the high intensity of WhatsApp usage has raised questions regarding its influence on students' social interactions. This study aims to determine the effect of WhatsApp social media usage on the social interaction of students in the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) Study Program at UIN Raden Intan Lampung. This research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. The population consisted of students from the PAI Study Program at UIN Raden Intan Lampung, with a sample of 34 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS version 25, including normality tests, linearity tests, simple linear regression analysis, t-tests, and coefficient of determination analysis. The results revealed that WhatsApp social media usage had no significant effect on students' social interaction. This was indicated by a significance value of 0.933, which was greater than 0.05 (0.933 > 0.05). Furthermore, the calculated t-value of 0.085 was lower than the t-table value of 2.037. The coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.000 indicated that the WhatsApp variable did not contribute to variations in students' social interaction. These findings suggest that students' social interaction is influenced by other factors beyond the use of WhatsApp social media
