Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh penggunaan sistem temu kembali informasi yang masih manual, sehingga pemustaka masih mengandalkan katalog manual untuk menemukan bahan pustaka di perpustakaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui optimalisasi sistem temu kembali informasi di Perpustakaan SMA Negeri 18 Kabupaten Tangerang Provinsi Banten. Kondisi tersebut mempengaruhi kemudahan dan kecepatan pengguna dalam memperoleh informasi yang dibutuhkan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Informan penelitian terdiri atas kepala perpustakaan, pustakawan, dan siswa sebagai pemustaka. Teknik analisis data menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman yang meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa optimalisasi sistem temu kembali informasi di Perpustakaan SMA Negeri 18 Kabupaten Tangerang Provinsi Banten telah dilakukan melalui pemanfaatan katalog manual dan katalog online (OPAC) sebagai sarana penelusuran informasi. Dari aspek kecepatan menemukan dokumen, penggunaan OPAC dinilai lebih cepat dan efisien dibandingkan katalog manual, meskipun masih terdapat hambatan berupa keterbatasan jumlah komputer dan jaringan internet yang belum stabil. Dari aspek ketepatan dan relevansi hasil pencarian, katalog manual dan OPAC telah membantu pemustaka menemukan informasi yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan, namun masih ditemukan ketidaksesuaian antara data katalog dengan koleksi fisik di rak sehingga memengaruhi akurasi hasil pencarian. Dari aspek kemudahan penggunaan, OPAC dinilai lebih mudah dipahami dan digunakan oleh pemustaka dibandingkan katalog manual karena proses pencarian dilakukan melalui kata kunci, serta didukung oleh bimbingan pustakawan yang aktif membantu pengguna dalam melakukan penelusuran informasi. Ketersediaan koleksi yang terbarukan telah diupayakan melalui pendataan, pengadaan koleksi baru, pembelian, hibah, dan pembaruan katalog, namun sinkronisasi antara data katalog dengan kondisi koleksi fisik masih perlu ditingkatkan. Selain itu, kualitas metadata dan sistem klasifikasi yang menerapkan Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) telah membantu pemustaka mengidentifikasi serta menemukan lokasi koleksi secara lebih cepat, tepat, dan terarah. Secara keseluruhan, tingkat kepuasan pemustaka terhadap sistem temu kembali informasi tergolong baik karena layanan perpustakaan dinilai mampu membantu pengguna memperoleh informasi sesuai kebutuhan melalui dukungan katalog dan pelayanan pustakawan yang responsif. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa optimalisasi sistem temu kembali informasi di Perpustakaan SMA Negeri 18 Kabupaten Tangerang Provinsi Banten telah berjalan dengan cukup baik melalui pemanfaatan katalog manual dan katalog online (OPAC). Namun, pelaksanaannya belum sepenuhnya optimal karena masih terdapat beberapa kendala, yaitu keterbatasan fasilitas teknologi, jumlah komputer yang tersedia untuk mengakses OPAC, jaringan internet yang belum stabil, data katalog yang belum diperbarui secara konsisten sehingga belum sepenuhnya sesuai dengan kondisi koleksi fisik di rak, serta masih tingginya ketergantungan pemustaka terhadap bantuan pustakawan dalam melakukan penelusuran informasi. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan pembaruan data katalog dan metadata secara berkala, peningkatan kualitas pengelolaan koleksi, penguatan pemanfaatan teknologi informasi, penyediaan sarana dan prasarana yang lebih memadai, serta peningkatan kompetensi pustakawan dan literasi informasi pemustaka agar sistem temu kembali informasi dapat memberikan layanan yang lebih cepat, tepat, relevan, efektif, dan efisien. ABSTRACT This study was motivated by the continued use of a manual information retrieval system, which requires library users to rely on manual catalogs to locate library materials. The study aimed to examine the optimization of the information retrieval system at the Library of SMA Negeri 18 Tangerang Regency, Banten Province. This condition affects the ease and speed with which users obtain the information they need. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research informants consisted of the head librarian, the librarian, and students as library users. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the optimization of the information retrieval system at the Library of SMA Negeri 18 Tangerang Regency, Banten Province has been carried out through the use of both manual catalogs and the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) as information retrieval tools. In terms of retrieval speed, OPAC was considered faster and more efficient than the manual catalog, although its implementation is constrained by the limited number of computers and unstable internet connectivity. Regarding the accuracy and relevance of search results, both the manual catalog and OPAC have assisted users in locating information relevant to their needs. However, discrepancies between catalog records and the physical collection on the shelves were still identified, affecting search accuracy. In terms of ease of use, OPAC was regarded as more user friendly than the manual catalog because searches could be performed using keywords and were supported by librarians who actively assisted users during the information retrieval process. The availability of updated collections has been improved through collection inventory, acquisition of new materials, purchases, donations, and catalog updates. Nevertheless, synchronization between catalog records and the physical collection still requires improvement. In addition, the quality of metadata and the classification system based on the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) has enabled users to identify and locate library materials more quickly, accurately, and systematically. Overall, users expressed a positive level of satisfaction with the information retrieval system because the library services effectively supported their information needs through the availability of catalogs and responsive librarian assistance. It can therefore be concluded that the optimization of the information retrieval system at the Library of SMA Negeri 18 Tangerang Regency, Banten Province has been implemented fairly well through the utilization of manual catalogs and OPAC. However, the system has not yet reached its full potential due to several constraints, including limited technological facilities, an insufficient number of computers for accessing OPAC, unstable internet connectivity, inconsistently updated catalog data that do not always reflect the physical collection, and users' continued dependence on librarian assistance during information retrieval. Therefore, regular updates of catalog records and metadata, improvements in collection management, stronger integration of information technology, provision of adequate facilities and infrastructure, and enhancement of librarians' competencies and users' information literacy are necessary to ensure that the information retrieval system provides faster, more accurate, relevant, effective, and efficient services.
