Abstract

ABSTRACT The low understanding of the concept of science in Indonesia is still one of the fundamental problems in the world of education, especially at the elementary school level. To overcome this, a learning model is needed that is able to integrate local culture with scientific concepts so that students' understanding becomes more meaningful. One relevant alternative is the application of ethnoscience-based Inquiry-Based Learning models. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the model on the understanding of the concept of IPAS for students in class V of MIS Masyariqul Anwar 7 Labuhan Ratu. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design of the Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The research population was all students of class V, with the sample determined based on the division of existing classes, namely class V A as the experimental class and class V B as the control class. The research instrument is in the form of a concept understanding test that has been tested for validity and reliability. Based on the results of the Independent Samples t-Test on the NGain score, a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05 was obtained which showed a significant difference between the experimental and control classes. This is in line with the results of the N-Gain calculation, where the experimental class experienced an average increase of 59.42% the moderately effective category, while the control class decreased by -1.35% the very ineffective category. Thus, the application of ethnoscience-based Inquiry-Based Learning model has proven to be more effective in improving students' understanding of concepts.
