Abstract

ABSTRACT Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) is a teaching method that emphasizes interaction and communication as the main goal of language learning. This research aimed to find out the effect of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) on students‟ speaking ability at the eighth grade of MTS Jabal An-Nur Al-Islami Bandar Lampung. The method of this research was quasi-experimental. The population of this research consisted of students at the eighth grade. The researcher used two classes as the sample of the research, namely the experimental class and the control class. The experimental class consisted of 31 students and was taught by using CLT, while the control class consisted of 26 students and was taught by using Conventional Technique (Grammar Translation Method/GTM). The instrument of this research was a speaking test based on several aspects such as vocabulary, accuracy, fluency, and pronunciation. The data collection of this research was pre-test and post-test. The researcher used SPSS version 25 to analyze the data, including normality test, homogeneity test, and hypothesis testing. Based on the research finding, it was found that sig. (2-tailed) of the equal variance assumed in the independent sample test table was 0.003. It is lower than α = 0.05, which means that Ha was accepted. The researcher concluded that there was a significant effect of using Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) on students‟ speaking ability at the eighth grade of MTS Jabal An-Nur Al-Islami Bandar Lampung in academic year 2025/2025.
