Abstract

ABSTRACT English serves as a fundamental global language that plays an essential role in international communication. Nevertheless, many students continue to struggle in mastering vocabulary, particularly in aspects such as pronunciation, spelling, and understanding word meanings. One of the main contributing factors is the lack of engaging and effective learning media. Thus, creative teaching strategies that incorporate technology are necessary. To overcome this issue, the researcher applied the Word of Wonder (WOW) application as a digital learning tool to enhance students’ vocabulary mastery at SMPN 3 Sekampung. This research employed a quantitative quasi-experimental design to investigate the effectiveness of the WOW application in developing students’ vocabulary mastery. The study involved seventh-grade students of SMPN 3 Sekampung, totaling 128 participants. Two classes were chosen as samples, with class VII.1 as the experimental group and class VII.2 as the control group. Both groups received pre-tests and post-tests to assess their vocabulary mastery. The experimental group was taught using the WOW application, while the control group used conventional media. The results of the independent sample t-test showed a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000, which is less than 0.05. This indicates that the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H₁) accepted, proving that the WOW application had a significant positive effect on students’ vocabulary mastery.
