Abstract

ABSTRACT Vocabulary mastery is a fundamental component of English learning because it supports students’ abilities in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. However, many tenth-grade students still experience difficulties in mastering English vocabulary due to low learning motivation and the limited use of varied and interactive learning media. Therefore, learning innovations that integrate technology are needed to create a more engaging learning environment. This study aims to examine the effect of using the Gimkit application on students’ English vocabulary mastery of tenthgrade students at SMA Ma’arif NU 5 Purbolinggo, East Lampung, in the academic year 2025/2026. This study employed a quasi-experimental research design, specifically a pretest–posttest control group design, involving an experimental class taught using the Gimkit application and a control class taught using conventional teaching methods. The research instrument was a vocabulary test that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data were collected through pretests and posttests and analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, and an independent samples t-test. The results showed that the data were normally distributed and homogeneous. The independent samples t-test indicated that the difference between the experimental and control groups was not statistically significant (Sig. = 0.091 > 0.05). However, the mean posttest score of the experimental class (82.05) was higher than that of the control class (80.25). These findings suggest that the use of the Gimkit application showed a positive effect on students’ vocabulary learning, although the difference was not statistically significant. The use of Gimkit supports the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum, which emphasizes student-centered learning, technology integration, and active student engagement. Therefore, the Gimkit application can be considered as an alternative learning medium to support English vocabulary learning in senior high schools.
