Abstract

ABSTRACT Vocabulary is an important component in learning English because it helps students understand and use the language effectively. However, many elementary school students still have difficulties in mastering vocabulary due to limited learning media and low student participation. Based on preliminary observation at SDN 1 Tekad, many fifth-grade students scored below the Minimum Mastery Criterion (KKM) of 75. Therefore, an interesting and interactive learning medium is needed to improve students’ vocabulary mastery. One of the media used in this research was Spinning Wheel. This research aimed to find out whether there was a significant effect of using Spinning Wheel media on students’ vocabulary mastery at the fifth grade of SDN 1 Tekad in the 2025/2026 academic year. This study used a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design. The population consisted of 46 students, and the sample was 22 students selected through cluster random sampling. The instrument used was a vocabulary test consisting of 20 items. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test. The result showed that the mean score of the pre-test was 73.18 and increased to 85.91 in the post-test after the implementation of Spinning Wheel media. The data analysis using Independent Sample T-Test showed that the significance value was 0.001, which was lower than 0.05. It means that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In conclusion, Spinning Wheel media had a positive and significant effect on improving students’ vocabulary mastery and can be used as an effective teaching medium in elementary school.
