Abstract
ABSTRACT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ADVERSITY QUOTIENT AND GROUP COHESION WITH SOCIAL LOAFING AMONG STUDENTS LIVING AWAY FROM HOME BY: DEA AULIA PUTRI Students studying away from home face the challenge of adapting to a new social and cultural environment, which can cause discomfort and affect their engagement in academic activities, including group work. This situation has the potential to lead to social loafing, which is the tendency for individuals to reduce their effort when working in a group, particularly when social support is low and adaptation has not yet been fully achieved. This study aims to analyse the relationship and influence of adversity quotient and group cohesion on social loafing among students studying away from home at the Raden Intan State Islamic University of Lampung. The study employs a quantitative approach with a correlational design, involving 385 students through purposive sampling. Data were collected using scales measuring social loafing, adversity quotient, and group cohesion, and analysed using multiple linear regression with the bootstrap technique. The results indicate that adversity quotient (β = -0.112; p < 0.001) and group cohesion (β = 0.527; p < 0.001) have a significant influence on social loafing, accounting for 19.75% of the variance (R² = 0.197). These findings suggest that a strong fighting spirit and good group cohesion can reduce social loafing behaviour, whilst emphasising the importance of increasing participation and developing soft skills in group learning. Keywords: social loafing, out of town students.
