Abstract

Tiara Amanda Sinta Fatmawati This study aims to explore students‘ perceptions of the use of the autobase account @english_menfess on X and to examine its contribution to the development of students‘ self-regulated learning in improving writing skills. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method. The participants of this study were six students from the English Education Student, selected using purposive sampling. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis to identify recurring patterns related to students‘ perceptions and self-regulated learning processes. The findings reveal that students generally have positive perceptions toward the use of @english_menfess as a learning medium. Students perceive the platform as enjoyable, interesting, and less anxiety-inducing due to its informal nature and anonymous autobase system. The use of @english_menfess encourages students to practice writing, expand vocabulary, improve grammar awareness, and gain confidence in writing English. In addition, the platform contributes to the development of students‘ self-regulated learning by supporting key components such as goal setting, learning strategies, self-monitoring, self-evaluation, and maintaining engagement. Through frequent exposure to English content and interaction with other users, students become more autonomous and reflective learners. However, the findings also indicate several challenges, including unclear feedback and the nonexpert nature of responses, which require students to apply critical thinking when evaluating information. Despite these challenges, @english_menfess is perceived as a supportive and effective supplementary learning platform for developing writing skills. This study concludes that the autobase account @english_menfess on X plays a significant role in supporting students‘ self-regulated learning and writing development beyond formal classroom instruction.
