Abstract
ABSTRACT The digitalization of payment systems through technologies such as mobile banking, e-wallets, and particularly the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) has significantly transformed the transaction patterns of Indonesian society. Theoretically, increased transaction efficiency is expected to accelerate the velocity of money (VOM). However, empirical evidence shows a paradox in Indonesia, where despite the rapid development of digital payment systems, the velocity of money has tended to decline in recent years. This study aims to analyze the effect of QRIS on the velocity of money in Indonesia during the 2020–2024 period and to examine the role of inflation as a moderating variable in this relationship. This study is a time series study using a quantitative approach. The population used in this study is all data related to QRIS, Velocity Of Money, and inflation in Indonesia during the period 2020–2024. This study is macroeconomic in nature, so the population must include national aggregate data. In sampling, the researcher chose to use the saturated sampling technique. The type of data used in this study is secondary data sourced from Bank Indonesia (BI) and the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). In this study, the author uses a simple regression analysis model and Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) with the statistical tool SPSS 25. The results indicate that QRIS has a positive and significant effect on the velocity of money in Indonesia. This finding suggests that the adoption of QRIS as a digital payment instrument can accelerate economic transactions, in line with the Quantity Theory of Money and the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), which emphasize the role of efficiency and technological ease of use in enhancing economic activity. Meanwhile, inflation does not moderate the relationship between QRIS and the velocity of money, as the inflation rate does not significantly strengthen or weaken the relationship. This implies that QRIS plays a structural and technical role as a payment tool that remains effective regardless of price fluctuations. From an Islamic economic perspective, these results highlight the importance of efficiency and transparency in digital payment systems to support productive and equitable economic activities.
