Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan fenomena celebrity worship pada mahasiswa penggemar K-pop di Bandar Lampung. Celebrity worship merupakan bentuk keterikatan emosional berlebihan terhadap figur publik yang dapat berkembang menjadi perilaku obsesif dan adiktif, memengaruhi kondisi psikologis individu. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain deskriptif. Subjek penelitian berjumlah tiga orang mahasiswa penggemar K-pop yang dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling berdasarkan kriteria tertentu, seperti durasi menjadi penggemar lebih dari tiga tahun, aktif mengikuti konten idola melalui platform penggemar, serta memiliki keterlibatan emosional dan perilaku dukungan terhadap idola. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara semi-terstruktur, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa seluruh partisipan menampilkan aspek-aspek celebrity worship sebagaimana dikemukakan oleh Maltby, yaitu entertainment-social, intense personal, dan pada beberapa kecenderungan ringan menuju borderline-pathological. Partisipan memanfaatkan ketertarikan terhadap idola sebagai sumber hiburan, motivasi, dan dukungan emosional, sekaligus menjalin interaksi sosial dengan sesama penggemar. Namun, pada level intense-personal, muncul keterikatan emosional mendalam berupa penghayatan seolah memiliki hubungan personal dengan idola, pengeluaran waktu dan biaya berlebih, serta fantasi menjadikan idola sebagai pasangan hidup. Meskipun demikian, sebagian besar partisipan masih mampu mempertahankan kontrol diri sehingga perilaku pemujaan belum sampai mengganggu fungsi kehidupan secara signifikan. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa celebrity worship pada mahasiswa penggemar K-pop berada pada variasi tingkat keterlibatan dari yang bersifat hiburan hingga emosional intensif. Fenomena ini memiliki potensi memberikan dampak positif sebagai sumber motivasi, namun juga berisiko menimbulkan masalah psikologis apabila keterikatan berkembang secara berlebihan. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan kesadaran diri dan pengelolaan emosi yang sehat agar ketertarikan terhadap idola tetap berada dalam batas wajar. ABSTRACT This study aims to describe the phenomenon of celebrity worship among K-pop fan college students in Bandar Lampung. Celebrity worship is a form of excessive emotional attachment to a public figure that can develop into obsessive and addictive behavior, affecting an individual's psychological state. The research method used was a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. The study subjects were three K-pop fan college students selected using purposive sampling based on certain criteria, such as having been a fan for more than three years, actively following idol content through fan platforms, and exhibiting emotional involvement and supportive behavior toward the idol. Data collection techniques were conducted through semi-structured interviews and documentation. Data validity was tested using triangulation of sources and methods. The results showed that all participants displayed aspects of celebrity worship as proposed by Maltby: entertainment-social, intense-personal, and, in some cases, mild tendencies toward borderline-pathological. Participants utilized their interest in idols as a source of entertainment, motivation, and emotional support, while also fostering social interactions with fellow fans. However, at the intense personal level, a deep emotional attachment emerges, manifesting as a sense of personal connection with the idol, excessive expenditure of time and money, and fantasies of making the idol a life partner. Despite this, most participants were able to maintain self-control, preventing the worship behavior from significantly disrupting their daily lives. This study concludes that celebrity worship among college students, K-pop fans, varies in level of involvement, from purely entertainment-based to intensely emotional. This phenomenon has the potential to provide positive motivational impacts, but also carries the risk of causing psychological problems if the attachment becomes excessive. Therefore, self-awareness and healthy emotional management are necessary to keep idol attraction within reasonable limits.
