Abstract

ABTRACT Listening is an important skill in learning English because it helps students understand spoken language and communicate effectively. However, many students still have difficulties in listening due to limited learning media, lack of practice, and uninteresting teaching methods. Therefore, the use of technology-based media such as YouTube podcasts is expected to help improve students’ listening skills. This research aims to find out the influence of using the Mr. Bob Kampung Inggris Podcast YouTube Channel on the listening skills of tenth-grade students at MAN 2 Bandar Lampung. This study uses a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design, specifically a non-equivalent control group design. The sample consists of two classes: one experimental class taught using the Mr. Bob Kampung Inggris podcast on YouTube and one control class taught using conventional listening materials. Both groups were given a pre-test and a post-test in the form of multiple-choice listening tests. The data were analyzed using statistical analysis to compare the students’ listening scores before and after the treatment. The results show that students in the experimental class achieved higher improvement in listening skills compared to those in the control class. This indicates that the use of the Mr. Bob Kampung Inggris Podcast YouTube Channel has a positive influence on students’ listening skills. The hypothesis testing result of the independent sample t-test, the significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) obtained was 0.740, which is greater than 0.05 (0.740 > 0.05). Thus, Ho was accepted and Ha was rejected. It meant that there which means that there is no significant difference between the post-test scores of the experimental and control classes after treatment. However, although the difference is not statistically significant, the mean score of the experimental class (77.27) was slightly higher than that of the control class (76.52). This indicates that the use of Mr. Bob Kampung Inggris Podcast YouTube Channel still had a positive influence in improving students’ listening skills, even though the improvement was not statistically significant at the 0.05 level.
