Abstract

ABSTRACT This study was motivated by the psychological condition of Children in Conflict with the Law (ABH) undergoing social rehabilitation at the UPTD PKS Insan Berguna, particularly children involved in drug abuse, who experience psychological problems that lead to the formation of a negative self-concept, such as feelings of failure, low self-esteem, shame, and pessimism about the future. This condition requires appropriate psychosocial assistance, one of which is through the role of a counselor. The focus of this study is to analyze the role of counselors in fostering self-concept in ABH cases of drug abuse, especially drug users. This study uses a qualitative approach with field research. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation with informants selected using purposive sampling techniques. The research informants consisted of one counselor and two ABH drug users. The data analysis technique in this study used Miles and Huberman's theory, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show that the role of counselors in fostering the self-concept of ABH is carried out through the stages of assessment, counseling, and monitoring. In the assessment stage, counselors as facilitator play a role in identifying the initial psychological condition and selfperception of children. In the counseling stage, counselors act as psychosocial companions and motivators who help children reflect on their legal experiences and build a more positive self-concept. The monitoring stage serves to monitor the sustainability of changes in the child's behavior, emotions, and self-perception. The role of the counselor has been proven to foster a more positive self-concept, marked by changes in ABH in the form of increased self-confidence, emotional stability, social interaction skills, and the emergence of hope for the future. Thus, it can be concluded that the role of counselors has a significant contribution in fostering a positive selfconcept in children in conflict with the law who are drug users. Changes in self-concept, marked by improvements in emotions, behavior, and selfperception, are important assets for children undergoing rehabilitation and social reintegration after returning to their family and community environments.
