Abstract

ABSTRACT Reading comprehension is an essential skill in English learning, particularly for high school students who must understand increasingly complex texts. Preliminary findings at SMAN 6 Bandar Lampung showed that many tenth-grade students struggled to comprehend descriptive texts due to limited vocabulary, low motivation, and the lack of an engaging learning model. To address this issue, the Window Shopping Learning Model was introduced as an alternative cooperative learning model that encourages active participation, collaboration, and meaningful interaction among students. This research aimed to investigate the influence of the Window Shopping Learning Model on students’ reading comprehension of descriptive texts. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design was used, involving two classes: an experimental class taught through the Window Shopping model and a control class taught using conventional textbook-based instruction. A total of 66 students participated. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests containing multiple-choice questions assessing main idea, inference, grammatical features, detail, supporting idea, excluding facts not written, and vocabulary in context. Data were analyzed using the Independent Sample T-test. The findings showed that the Sig. (2-tailed) result was 0.002, lower than α = 0.05, indicating a significant difference between both post-test groups. Students taught using the Window Shopping model achieved higher scores, demonstrating improved reading comprehension. Therefore, the Window Shopping Learning Model is effective in enhancing students’ understanding of descriptive texts and is recommended for use as an innovative, interactive, and student centered learning model.
