Abstract
ABSTRACT This study uses narrative inquiry to explore how an ambivert tutor (LAA) supports young learners’ speaking development. The study focuses on LAA’s lived teaching experience and presents a narrative portrait through story fragments. Data were collected from three sources: a semi-structured interview, a narrative frame, and a lesson plan. The analysis highlights several connected narrative threads. First, LAA holds a “confidence-first” teaching belief and aims to build joy and emotional safety so children feel brave to speak. Second, she applies communicative strategies in structured steps, including game based activities, simple projects such as making short videos, and role play tasks (e.g., a talk show). Third, LAA responds to key classroom challenges, especially mixed ability and students’ energy level, by adjusting support and using positive classroom management. Overall, the study shows how one tutor’s beliefs, strategies, and reflective attitude work together to create a supportive speaking environment for young learners. The findings offer practical insight for teacher education on self-awareness, classroom scaffolding, and reflective practice in the Indonesian context. Keywords: Ambivert Tutor; Communicative Strategies; Narrative Inquiry; Reflective Practice; Speaking Skills; Young Learners.
