Abstract

ABSTRACT The use of technology in English language teaching has increased, particularly in teaching listening skills. Listening is often challenging for junior high school students due to limited exposure to authentic English and less engaging learning media. YouTube offers audio-visual content that may support students’ listening comprehension and motivation. This study aims to explore students’ perceptions of using YouTube as a medium for learning English listening skills. This research employed a qualitative case study design involving eighth-grade students of SMPN 31 Bandar Lampung. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews as the main instrument and classroom observations as a supporting instrument. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis, and triangulation was applied to ensure the credibility of the findings. The findings show that students have positive perceptions of YouTube in learning listening skills. Cognitively, YouTube helps students understand main ideas, details, and pronunciation. Affectively, it increases students’ motivation and interest. Conatively, students demonstrate positive learning behaviors by actively engaging in listening practice. In conclusion, YouTube is an effective medium for supporting English listening learning. Keywords: YouTube, Listening Skills, Students’ Perception, Qualitative Case Study
