Abstract
Kata Kunci: ruqyah; Jam'iyyah Ruqyah Aswaja; Tafsir al-Munir; living Qur’an; Wahbah az-Zuhaili Abstract The development of syar’iyyah ruqyah, such as the Jam’iyyah Ruqyah Aswaja (JRA) community, represents an institution that revitalizes the practice of ruqyah in accordance with Islamic law, using Qur’anic verses as a medium for healing. This study aims to examine the understanding and practice of ruqyah verses by JRA, and to compare them with the meanings found in Tafsir Al-Munir, which serves as a corrective reference to rectify and clarify any misperceptions or misunderstandings in JRA’s practices, while also identifying points of convergence and divergence between the two. The method employed is a comparative study with a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach. The research was conducted through library research, using Al-Munir by Wahbah az-Zuhaili as the source of tafsir and the official JRA handbook as the reference for ruqyah practice. In addition, field research was conducted at the JRA branch in Bandar Lampung. Data analysis was carried out using the Living Qur’an theory and exegetical approach, along with an anthropological perspective, with data collected through literature review, observation, and interviews. The results show that the understanding. The results show that the understanding of ruqyah verses in JRA practice aligns with Tafsir Al-Munir for certain verses; however, shifts in meaning were found in other verses, potentially leading to misunderstandings in verse reception. For verses such as Q.S. Al-Falaq, Al-Qalam, Thaha, Al-Isrā’, and An Nahl, JRA’s interpretation remains within the theological framework as explained in Tafsir Al-Munir. In contrast, for verses such as Q.S. Al-Anbiyā’ and Āli ‘Imrān, JRA tends to interpret the verses functionally and practically in the context of ruqyah, which may diverge from the historical context and primary purpose of the verses.
