Abstract

ABSTRACT THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING TED-ED VIDEOS TOWARDS STUDENTS’ LISTENING SKILL FOR ELEVENTH GRADE IN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL By: Aloura Dinda Christiani Listening is an essential skill in English learning, yet many students struggle to understand spoken texts due to limited vocabulary and lack of exposure to authentic audio. TED-Ed videos offer clear narration, visual context, and interactive features that help students comprehend spoken material more effectively. This study aimed to determine the significant effectiveness of using TED-Ed videos on the listening skills of eleventh-grade students at SMK Miftahul Ulum in the 2024/2025 academic year. A quasi-experimental design was used, involving an experimental class taught with TED-Ed videos and a control class taught using conventional methods. Data were collected through pre tests and post-tests containing validated listening questions. The experimental class showed a notable improvement, with the mean score increasing from 53.44 to 77.11. Meanwhile, the control class increased from 56.06 to 60.89. The independent samples t-test revealed a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference between the post-test scores of both groups. These results show that TED-Ed videos were effective in enhancing listening skills. Their audiovisual features helped students focus on clear audio input, understand context through visuals, and retain information through repeated key points. Students also showed higher motivation and engagement during learning. In conclusion, TED-Ed videos significantly improved students‟ listening skills and are recommended as an effective media for English listening activities. Future studies may explore their impact on other language skills or different educational levels. Keywords: Effectiveness, Listening Skill, TED-Ed Videos.
