Abstract

ABSTRACT The research explore the students’ perceptions of the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) in enhancing their reading comprehension ability at State Senior High School 1 Sidomulyo. As a student-centered instructional model, PjBL encourages learners to engage actively in collaborative, meaningful, and inquiry-based learning tasks through project completion. In the context of English language teaching, especially in reading comprehension, the PjBL approach is expected to promote students’ active participation, deepen their understanding of texts, and support the development of critical thinking skills through authentic learning experiences. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method involving eleventh-grade students as participants. Data were collected through interviews, classroom observations, and documentation to obtain comprehensive insights into students’ experiences with PjBL in reading activities. to identify emerging patterns related to students’ perceptions.project tasks. acquisition The findings revealed that the Project-Based Learning positively contributes to improving students’ reading comprehension skills and learning engagement. Students reported that PjBL helped them better identify main ideas, understand supporting details, and improve vocabulary through collaborative project tasks. Observational data also revealed that students became more active and motivated during reading activities, as the projects encouraged them to interact with texts more deeplytimelines, and support for effective collaboration to maximize the benefits of PJBL in English learning.
