Abstract

However, modern educational practices tend to be materialistic and competitive, positioning academic achievement as the primary measure of success while neglecting manners (adab) and spiritual values. This study was conducted to examine Al-Ghazali’s concept of educator and student manners and its relevance within the context of contemporary Islamic education. This research employs a qualitative approach through the library research method. The primary source is Ihya’ Ulumuddin by Imam Al-Ghazali, while secondary data were obtained from books, journals, and scientific studies related to Al-Ghazali’s educational thought. The data were analyzed using content analysis techniques, involving data collection, data selection, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. This method enables the researcher to identify and interpret the philosophical, ethical, and spiritual aspects of Al Ghazali’s concept of educational manners and relate them to current issues in Islamic education. The results show that educator manners according to Al Ghazali include sincerity in teaching, compassion, exemplary conduct, patience, and moral responsibility for students’ development. A teacher does not merely teach, but guides the soul toward truth. Student manners include a sincere intention in seeking knowledge, humility, respect toward teachers, discipline, diligence, and practicing knowledge. These findings affirm that educational success is not only measured by the transfer of knowledge, but also by the formation of character and spirituality. In the contemporary context, Al-Ghazali’s thought remains relevant as a solution to moral degradation and the dehumanization of modern education, as it restores the role of Islamic education in shaping ethical and holistic human beings. Keywords: Manners, Educators, Students, Imam Al-Ghazali, Ihya’ Ulumuddin.
