Abstract

ABSTRACT This study investigates the effectiveness of the SpeechAce website as a technology-based learning tool for assessing and improving students’ English pronunciation. This research employed total sampling, involving all 70 eighth-grade students of SMP PGRI 6 Bandar Lampung in the academic year 2025/2026, consisting of 35 students from class VIII A and 35 students from class VIII B. A quasi experimental design was applied, with one class serving as the experimental group and the other as the control group. The experimental group practiced pronunciation through the SpeechAce website, which provided immediate feedback and systematic evaluation, while the control group was taught using conventional methods. Data were analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, and Independent Samples t-tests with IBM SPSS V.27 to compare the pre-test and post-test mean scores. The normality and homogeneity tests produced significance values greater than 0.05, indicating that H₀ was accepted, meaning the data were normally distributed and the variances between groups were homogeneous. Thus, the dataset met the assumptions required for conducting the Independent Samples t-test. The post-test results revealed that the experimental group attained a mean score of 84.34, while the control group obtained 81.97, indicating higher pronunciation achievement among students who used the SpeechAce website. The Independent Samples t-test yielded a 2-tailed significance value of 0.001 < 0.05, indicating that H₀ was rejected and H₁ was accepted. Therefore, there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups. These findings confirm that the SpeechAce website is effective in improving the pronunciation skills of eighth-grade students at SMP PGRI 6 Bandar Lampung.
