Abstract

ABSTRACT Marriage is an inner and outer bond between a man and a woman as husband and wife with the aim of forming a happy family, sakinah, mawaddah, wa rahmah. However, in reality, not all individuals can easily get married. One of the causes is a psychological condition in the form of gamophobia, which is an excessive fear of marriage or long-term commitment. This study aims to determine the factors that cause postponement of marriage by gamophobia sufferers in Rawaharum Village, Pagelaran Subdistrict, Pringsewu Regency, and to analyze the Islamic legal perspective on the postponement of marriage. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptiveanalytical approach. Data collection techniques were conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that the postponement of marriage by gamophobia sufferers was caused by past trauma, mental unpreparedness, social pressure, lack of self-confidence, and bad experiences related to marriage. In the perspective of Islamic law, the postponement of marriage due to gamophobia can be justified as long as there are efforts to overcome it according to the principles of maqashid shari'ah.
