Abstract

ABSTRACT Language could be considered a human communication system. Humans require language to express their opinions, feelings, and desires. Linguistics is the study of that system. Semantics and pragmatics are as part of linguistics. This study helps teachers and students to more understand linguistics, especially in deixis. A movie script may be an appropriate object for analysis in this context. The objective of this research is to identify the type and the dominant of deixis found in “If I Stay” Movie Script. This research based on George Yule theory. In this research used a qualitative approach, and technique data analyze, Reducing data, presenting data, displaying data, drawing conclusions, and verifying. The result showed that the first is person deixis there are 392 utterances containing as a person deixis, for percentage use of this deixis is 65%. The second is time / temporal deixis those are 97 utterances the percentage use of this deixis is (16%) which conduct Time deixis. The third is spatial / place deixis those are 116 utterances the percentage use of this deixis is 19% , lastly the dominant is person deixis. Keywords: Deixis, If I Stay, Movie, Pragmatic, Script.
