Abstract

ABSTRAK Masyarakat hindu bali masih mempertahankan adat dan istiadat. Banyak tradisi yang wajib dilaksanakan. Tujuan penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi jenis tanaman yang dipakai dalam Ritual Mepandes beserta filosofi pada Suku Bali di Desa Wiratama Kecamatan Penawartama Kabupaten Tulang Bawang. Pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan taknik studi pendahuluan, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data dilakukan secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian diperoleh tumbuhan yang digunakan pada ritual mepandes terdapat 32 spesies dari 21 famili dan banyak menggunakan famili Apocynaceae, Fabaceae dan Arecaceae. Filosifi penggunaan tanaman dalam ritual Mepandes di Desa Wiratama sangat terkait dengan filosofi dan kepercayaan spiritual masyarakat Bali. Pada setiap tanaman dianggap memiliki kekuatan tertentu yang dapat mempengaruhi jalannya upacara dan kehidupan spiritual peserta. Dengan menggunakan tanaman tersebut dianggap dapat megusir roh-roh jahat yang terdapat dalam diri seseorang dan berharap kedepannya bisa melanjutkan kehidupan yang lebih baik seperti seolah-olah terlahir kembali dalam keadaan suci. Dalam pengambilan tanaman yang digunakan untuk ritual mepandes harus diperhatikan sebab tumbuhan tersebut harus didoakan, tumbuh ditempat yang layak dan dianggap suci, serta didapatkan dengan cara yang baik. Kata Kunci: Etnobotani, Mependes, Tumbuhan ii ABSTRACT Balinese Hindu society still maintains its traditions and customs. There are many traditions that must be carried out. The aim of this research is to identify the types of plants used in the Mepandes Ritual and the philosophy of the Balinese Tribe in Wiratama Village, Penawartama District, Tulang Bawang Regency. Data collection in this research used preliminary study techniques, interviews and documentation. The data analysis technique was carried out descriptively. The research results showed that the plants used in the mepandes ritual contained 32 species from 21 families and many used the families Apocynaceae, Fabaceae and Arecaceae. The philosophy of using plants in the Mepandes ritual in Wiratama Village is closely related to the philosophy and spiritual beliefs of the Balinese people. Each plant is considered to have certain powers that can influence the course of the ceremony and the spiritual life of the participants. Using this plant is thought to be able to expel evil spirits within a person and hope that in the future he can continue a better life as if he were reborn in a holy state. When taking plants used for the mepandes ritual, care must be taken because these plants must be prayed for, grown in a suitable place and considered holy, and obtained in a good way.
