Abstract

ABSTRACT AN ANALYSIS OF MORAL VALUE IN “LIFE OF PI” MOVIE By: ZULKURNAIN SHOLIHIN The most important thing we learn from experiences, events or even from stories is moral values. Moral is related to good and bad things for a human to change in his/her life. Movie is one of entertaining medias, it describes about a plot-line of a story which showed by the sequenced moving objects. A movie is not only entertaining but it also provides lessons can be taken as moral value. The researcher aims to exploring Moral Value in Life of Pi movie. The objective of this research was divided into two parts, the first was to know the Moral Value in Life of Pi movie and the second is to describe the most dominant of the moral value in Life of Pi movie. In doing the analysis, the researcher was applying qualitative descriptive method in this research and using Linda and Richard Eyre‟s relevance theory. The instrument of this research was the “Life of Pi Movie”. The main source of the data was collected from the dialogues of main character in Life of Pi movie. The data collection technique in this research was using the document method in the form of writing. After conducting the research, the researcher found 8 types of moral values based on Linda and Richard Eyre‟s relevance theory. 8 types of moral values were got from 13 data from the dialogues. Those types of moral value were honesty, courage, self-confidence, self discipline, peace of ability, respect, love and kindness. Keywords: Moral Value, Movie, Relevance Theor
