Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to examine students' experiences in using inquiry-based learning methods for English speaking skills in class 10 TKJ SMKS Al Huda Jati Agung, as well as to analyze students' perceptions of the role of teachers in facilitating effective inquiry-based learning for students' English speaking skills. This study uses a narrative inquiry approach with interview, observation, and documentation methods as data collection techniques. The subjects of the study consisted of students with different levels of speaking skills, namely high, middle, and low. The results of the study from students' experiences show that students with high speaking skills are able to utilize the inquiry method effectively because they have strong self-confidence, supported by the role of teachers who provide freedom of opinion and constructive feedback. Students with intermediate skills show significant development when teachers provide guidance and encourage group cooperation. Meanwhile, students with low speaking skills experience increased self-confidence when teachers provide positive encouragement and create a comfortable and pressure-free learning atmosphere. Thus, it can be concluded that the inquiry-based learning method that is well facilitated by teachers is able to improve students' speaking skills with various levels of ability. This study recommends that teachers continue to develop strategies that are appropriate to students' emotional, social, environmental, and cultural needs to support the success of inquiry-based learning in English speaking skills.
