Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze suitable English material for the culinary art major at SMKN 1 Bandar Lampung. The background of this research is that English is commonly employed and taught at all levels, but learning remains challenging, especially in non-English speaking countries. Vocational students need career-specific English, yet instruction often follows a general syllabus. This gap has led to the rise of English for Specific Purposes, focusing on practical skills. At SMKN 1 Bandar Lampung, researchers found that English materials were too general and did not meet culinary arts students’ needs. Limited relevant resources highlight the need for tailored vocational English instruction. In the data analysis process, researchers found a discrepancy between the results of interviews conducted at the pre research stage and the results of the analysis of the teaching modules used in schools. Researchers identified differences in that teachers' statements regarding the material being taught did not fully match the content listed in the ATP or teaching modules. The finding of this research is the writer showed that the available content did not fully meet the needs of culinary students. The course material is still generic and does not specifically address the skills required in the culinary industry, such as food processing, food and beverage services, and the preparation of cooking utensils and ingredients.
