Abstract
While modern solutions using QR Codes and Geolocation offer economical and efficient alternatives, they possess significant security vulnerabilities, such as QR Code misuse via screenshots (i.e., buddy-punching) and location manipulation through Fake GPS applications. Moreover, most existing solutions are monolithic and designed for a single use case, which hinders reusability and forces organizations to inefficiently develop new systems from scratch. This research aims to develop a reusable library for the Android platform that serves as a fraud mitigation solution for automated attendance systems based on QR Code and Geolocation. The development methodology adapts a framework for reusable library development proposed by Yurkovich et al. (2017). The final product is an Android library with two primary modules: GeoValidator, for geofencing-based location validation and fake location detection, and SecureQR, for generating time-based dynamic QR Codes (TOTP). The evaluation process included several stages: unit testing, black-box testing, technical testing for security and robustness, usability testing involving external developers, and a final validation by a technology expert. The results demonstrate that the developed library functions as intended. In technical evaluations, the library accurately validated locations, rejected expired QR Codes, and successfully detected all 10 tested Fake GPS applications. The system also proved robust in handling abnormal conditions, such as an inactive GPS, without failure. Usability testing with external developers revealed that the library is easy to integrate, with an average implementation time of 20 to 40 minutes. Furthermore, the validation by a technology expert yielded a maximum feasibility score of 5.00, indicating that the product is highly suitable for use without revision. This research successfully produced a secure, efficient, and reusable solution to facilitate thev development of automated attendance systems for various organizations.
