Abstract

Kata Kunci: Pemujaan selebriti, Gen Z, Penggemar Kpop.ABSTRACT Celebrity worship is a psychological phenomenon in which individuals exhibit excessive admiration toward their idolized celebrities. Excessive celebrity worship, such as perceiving an idol as a life partner, can negatively impact mental health, including causing anxiety and depression. This phenomenon is important to study because it remains prevalent, especially within Kpop fan culture. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with indepth interviews as the primary data collection method. The informants in this study are three members of Gen Z, aged 13–28, who are Kpop fans. Data were analyzed using NVivo 12, applying the celebrity worship theory by Maltby (1999), which includes three dimensions: entertainment-social, intense-personal feeling, and borderlinepathological tendency. The findings of this research indicate that all three informants have experienced celebrity worship at varying levels. Two out of three informants showed characteristics aligned with the borderline pathological aspect. The conclusion of this study states that celebrity worship among Gen Z Kpop fans is generally still functional and positive, especially as a source of entertainment and social interaction. However, some individuals demonstrated emotional attachment and excessive spending behaviors toward their idols, which suggests that their celebrity worship may develop in an unhealthy or negative direction. Keywords: Celebrity Worship, Gen Z, Kpop Fans.
